I have introduced to the art of thrifting a few months ago. I have always bought my clothes brand new which has led to astronomical credit card bills. (smh) Now, if I pass a thrift store in my neighborhood in Brooklyn or in Manhattan I have to drop in to see if I can locate any hidden treasures. Being a plus size woman, locating plus size pieces can be a little challenging.
One day, I decided to go out for lunch rather than brown bag it. I was walking down Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn and came across a little thrift store. This place was absolutely packed with clothing for men, woman, and children..including accessories and shoes. I headed towards the back of the store where the coats were held. I didn’t hold out much luck on a finding outerwear in my size.
Rummaging through a few coats, I came across a mustard-colored jacket by Ashley Stewart. Even more surprising is that the jacket was in a size 3X. Score! I love Ashley Stewart. Jackets at Ashley Stewart normally are at least $80. The price tag on this jacket…? $20! Need I say more? LOL
The jacket was light weight with no lining. Which means I will be able to wear it slightly cool weather. A simple turtleneck or sweater underneath will give me more warmth should the temperature drop. Since the jacket one size larger, wearing heavier sweaters wouldn’t be a problem.
How would you style this jacket?
